Lisa, the trees you see accross the street from my office window belong to the Jas de Bouffan, that belonged to Cezanne's family... 

After the rain comes the sun, here the sun comes with wind. This time, the wind is very strong. Strong enough to endanger a ferry in Marseille... In other parts of France, that is the snow that made an early appearance. Sometimes up to 15" overnight...
I'm lucky everything is OK at home. It is just too cold and windy to want to go outside, be you human or cat. Perfect weather to work on a self-portrait. I mean, on a pattern by Amy Bradley. I've prepared about half of the pieces to fuse. I'm putting them together, to check the impact of colors as I progress.

 

I'm preparing for a short week, ending in a 4-days weekend.

Summer Fun Party continued

You may remember the blocks I was sewing last summer. I just had to assemble them on some background. Amazing how much time "just to" requires :-)

I've spend yesterday afternoon and part of this morning to achieve this. But I'm pleased with the result. My friend Agnes helped me find the right fabrics: as I was sewing those blocks randomly, a coffee theme appeared. It even imposed itself. So no wonder Agnes proposed a fabric that looks like jute, and another one with coffee beans on it.

Since I have plenty leftover fabrics in the same colors, I decided to make the back with those fabrics, thus reducing my stash. So I spent the afternoon cutting 2" wide strips and assembling them together. Now I have 30 strips, waiting to be sewned together for the back. I just have to do that...

Knitting and sane patchwork

I have suscribed to QuiltWow. In the December issue, there is a workshop by Jill Packer. I found it was a good opportunity to do some sane patchwork. I happened to have the required fabrics in my stash, and there it is, almost the exact copy of Jill's.
As it is a dark, gray and rainy day here, it brings the required light in my room :-)

TAST, Vegetables, Misc.

For the TAST stitch of this week, I'm a bit lazy and will post a picture from the PLOS course I have attended with Sharon. My excuse is XMas frenzy. :-) Anyway, this is the third from the top.

Regarding that XMas frenzy, this is the squash. Not an easy one, due to the curved seams, but still fun to make. One broccoli to do, and then I 'll assemble the wall hanging with all those vegetables. Must be ready for XMas. I think it will be pretty in a kitchen.

As many of you have pointed, Assistant 1 named Choupette, the one that is sitting, is ready to take all the credit. Osiris does not mind as long as she gets all the love she wants.

Thank you also for the compliment on the rose. It is not the most beautiful in the world, not even of the year in my garden, but I was surprise by its size at this time of the year.

Fabrics vegetable

Here is the cabbage. This one was fun to make. Maybe because I've got some advice from my main assistant:

The mice are back...

I've reworked the quilting, I think it is much better now.

Mice invasion

I'm glad you like the picture of the trees across the street. When I drive to work, there are more lovely pictures to take, but it is a bit dangerous to stop...

Thank you too for the comments on the bag pocket. It was fun to do. I have everything ready to finish the bag, I hope I will make it next weekend.
Your comments on the workshop piece are very encouraging too. New ideas are coming...
In the meantime, still from Marie-Claire Idées, there are a few mice I made this weekend, for three little girls who might like them. From the picture, I see I must rework the quilting a bit, but I was getting tired and going on would have been a bad idea. So for that's a task for next weekend too, I suppose.

Sewing Vegetables

Here is the vegetable of the week, the artichoke.

Growing, no sorry, Sewing vegetables

At the shop, we have all started a quilt with vegetables. They are sewed on a paper support. Not necessarily an easy method for me, I just cannot think in mirror :-). For the moment, I have an egg plant, a tomato (not sure I will keep it, must see how it looks among the other vegetables) and peppers.

I'm working on a lettuce. With curved seams... I'm not working on paper for this one, as I cannot figure how to manage mirror sewing and curved seams. So I'm "simply" piecing it together. There are little arrows on the pattern for this one, so I figure they show the grain. Another reason for piecing. I hope I can post the result soon.
